First Vice President's Message
By Robert Gomez

The month of March had two critical incidents were the Association was called out along with the CLEAT Attorney Patrick Lara.  I would really like to thank the members of Crimes against Persons and the Shooting Review Team.  The investigators and supervisors were professional and treated the involved officers with respect and understanding.  The officers do understand that those members in those positions are put in a very difficult situation and they appreciate the professionalism of those units.

This year is a contract year and the Association has already formed the bargaining team.  Since the last contract was signed, we have kept on top of topics that need to be addressed in this next contract in 2008.  The bargaining team is already conducting research on the items that have come up since the signing of the last contract.  We would ask that all members submit ideas, proposals, or anything that they would like to see in this next contract.  The Association Board does not have all the answers.  It is truly the membership that makes us strong so please send your proposals to me and I will make sure they are presented to the bargaining team.  In past years, we sent out surveys to see what the membership wanted.  This was a useful tool but we don't have to limit it to a survey.  We ask you to also provide any documentation you have as well as a contact number. You can email your suggestions to me or drop them by the Association office downtown.  We are working hard to make this a good contract.  If we all work together, we can make this the best contract.

We would like to remind all the Members that "Shop with a Cop" is an Association-sponsored event that will take place in August for back to school.  This is a great program to provide children in need with clothing and school supplies.  We ask that if anyone approaches you asking about "Shop with Cop" that you refer them to the Association office.  The Association will be putting out more details as the events approach.

As you all know, Bobby and his family is doing well.  Bobby was able to attend this month’s General Membership meeting and is looking and feeling better.  We are happy to see him up and about, and are looking forward to him retuning as soon as he is up to it.  Members from all over the department have given their support.  We truly have to take care of each other and I am pleased to see so many officer step up when a fellow officer is in need.  Thank you for all your help.   Until next month, be safe.
