EL PASO POLICE "THUNDER" finishes 3-2 in Border Patrol Flag Football Tournament
The El Paso Police Thunder participated in the 1st Annual Border Patrol "Turkey Bowl", an 8-on-8 Flag Football Tournament, benefiting the El Paso Sector Border Patrol Explorer Program. In all, thirteen teams participated in the event, which took place at Album Park on November 18-19.
The El Paso Municipal Police Officers' Association sponsored two teams, comprised of members from throughout the department, to compete for the first ever title. The Thunder and EPMPOA, and all the players on both sides gave a valiant effort.
On the first day of competition the Thunder posted a 2-1 record, defeating the Las Cruces Wrecking Crew, 31-14; and the Deming Lightning, 32-12, while suffering an overtime loss to the Ft. Hancock Lightning, 26-25. With a 2-1 record, the Thunder posted a 4th seed for the single elimination tournament games scheduled the next day.
On the second day of competition the Thunder faced the EPMPOA in the first tournament game, winning 30-12, paving their way to the quarterfinals in a rematch against the Ft. Hancock Lightning.
