Funeral Services for Retired Detective Asa B. Tatum Jr.

The El Paso Municipal Police Officers’ Association sadly announces the passing of retired Detective Asa B. Tatum Jr., #394, who passed away on May 31, 2019 at the age of 81.  (Ret.) Detective Tatum served with the El Paso Police Department for 13+ years, from December 1968 until May 1982.  

Prior to joining the El Paso Police Department, Mr. Tatum was a motorcycle officer with the Beaumont, Texas Police Department.  Before that, he was in the Navy where he served as an Airman in Vietnam. During his tour of duty he was awarded the National Defense Service Medal, Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal and the Vietnam Service Medal with the Bronze Star.

While living in El Paso Mr. Tatum was a member of Mt. View Baptist Church and a Master Mason of Five Points Lodge #1137.

A Memorial Service with Military Honors will be held at 1:00 p.m., Thursday, June 6, 2019 at Levingston Funeral Home in Port Neches, Texas.  A visitation for family and friends will be before the service beginning at 12:00 noon.

(Ret.) Detective Tatum is survived by three daughters, Kaye Dail, Jana Buchanan, and Amy Tatum Stahler and husband Blaine Elder, son, Doyle Weathington, sister, Judy Sauls and husband Bill, brother, Don Tatum, sister in law, Brenda Tatum, six grandchildren, Jeremy Davis, Chelsea Smith and Josh Green, Amanda Buchanan, Christina Buchanan and Brian Wells, Kayela Parker Stahler and Tyler Stahler and numerous nieces and nephews.

The EPPD Honor Guard will raise a United States Flag at Police Headquarters (911 N. Raynor) on Monday, June 10th at 8 A.M. and will fly the United States Flag for 24 hours in Honor of Retired Detective Asa B. Tatum Jr.  

The EPPD Honor Guard will lower the United States Flag on Tuesday, June 11th at 8  A.M. and will then fold the United States Flag.  The folded United States Flag, along with letters of commendations from his file will be sent to his three daughters, Kaye, Jana and Amy and son Doyle.

Anyone wishing to attend the raising or lowering of the United States Flag is invited to attend.

The El Paso Municipal Police Officers' Association offers our most sincere condolences and asks that you please keep the entire Tatum Family in your thoughts and prayers.
