The El Paso Municipal Police Officers’ Association sadly announces the passing of retired Canine "Nero" who passed away on April 4, 2022.
(Ret.) Canine "Nero" served the El Paso community as a police dog for 9+ years. He was commissioned by the El Paso Police Department on June 6, 2011 and retired on October 26, 2020.
At 8:00 AM on Wednesday, May 25, 2022, the El Paso Police Department Honor Guard will raise a U.S. Flag at the El Paso Police Academy, 2300 Scenic Dr., and will fly the U.S. Flag for 24 hours in honor of Retired Canine "Nero."
On Thursday, May 26, 2022, at 8:00 AM, the EPPD Honor Guard will lower the U.S. Flag and will fold it. The flag will then be given to his handler, Sergeant Santos "Sonny" Perez #1587. Anyone wishing to attend the raising and/or lowering of the U.S. Flag is invited and welcome to attend.
