Funeral Services for Retired Captain Luis Barba #37 |
The El Paso Municipal Police Officers’ Association sadly announces the passing of Retired Captain Luis "Louie" Barba #37, who passed away on March 30, 2024, at the age of 89. Retired Captain Barba served with the El Paso Police Department for 31 years, from October 1957 until his retirement on July 11, 1988.

The El Paso Municipal Police Officers' Association encourages its members to participate in a blood drive being held by Vitalant at Police Headquarters on Monday, March 18, 2024, from 10:00 AM to 2:00 PM. The blood drive will take place at Police Headquarters in the Chief's Large Conference Room.

133rd El Paso Police Academy Class Gradauation Ceremony |
The El Paso Municipal Police Officers' Association invites members and their families and the general public to attend the graduation ceremony for the El Paso Police Department’s 133rd Police Academy Class. The event will take place on Friday, March 15, 2024, at 9:00 AM at the Canutillo High School Auditorium, 6675 S. Desert Blvd.

The El Paso Police Department (EPPD) opened applications for their 138th academy class on Thursday, May 2.
Interested applicants are asked to apply as soon as possible, with the final date being Wednesday, Aug. 15, according to EPPD.

The El Paso Police Department’s 11-month training academy has been known as one of the longest programs in the country. But beginning in May, that will all change.
Beginning with the May academy class, the time spent in the training program will be condensed from 11 months to 8 1/2, helping get officers to answer the call for help sooner as the city of El Paso continues to grow.

El Paso Police spokesman Sergent Robert Gomez said the department has the DWI task force and said DWIs are high-priority as drinking and driving is one of the leading causes of traffic fatalities.

El Paso's City Council unanimously voted to buy the police department 500 additional body cameras. El Paso Police Executive Assistant Chief Zina Silva says there are four major reasons to having these body cameras: to promote public trust, increase public transparency, improve police accountability, and ensure public safety.

El Paso Police officers and members of the El Paso Municipal Police Officer's Association gathered Sunday morning to honor longtime Police Chief Greg Allen.
"It just warms my heart that he has a police station named after him," his widow Rosanne Allen said. "It's beautiful, and all the friends and blue family that showed up is just wonderful.

The El Paso Police Department, along with the El Paso Municipal Police Officers’ Association, renamed police headquarters at 911 N. Raynor on Sunday morning, March 3 in honor of longtime Police Chief Greg Allen who died unexpectedly last year.
Allen, who led the department for nearly 15 years, died on Jan. 17, 2023 at the age of 71.
March 3 would have been his 73nd birthday.

Family, residents and hundreds of law enforcement officers paid their last respects to Las Cruces Police Officer Jonah Hernandez, 35, on Wednesday in his hometown of El Paso.
Officer Hernandez was killed in the line of duty on Feb.
