One of the best things about being a CLEAT Member is the knowledge that you have the back-up of representation twenty-four hours a day, seven days a week.  Things go wrong in the law enforcement world and surprisingly sometimes they go wrong at the oddest of hours, go figure.  The good news is you have access to a CLEAT Attorney regardless of the time of day to help you through a critical incident.  I know that every one of you out there has a cell phone and I would recommend that you program the CLEAT Hotline number into your phone, because it is better to have it and not need it than to need it and not have it.  The number is 1-800-752-5328.  When you call that number the person on the other line will obtain your name and number and then contact the on call attorney who will call you back.  The good thing is you are speaking with an attorney and you have that attorney-client privilege.  An attorney will also come out to the scene to advise and guide you through the process.  Remember you're protected Administratively, Criminally and Civilly, as long as you are acting in the capacity of a Peace Officer, and this protection is for both on-duty and off-duty incidents.

Some of the benefits that CLEAT provides for you as a member are benefits such as a free Will for you and your spouse, which is prepared by our attorneys.  If you are interested in obtaining a will contact our office at (915)533-4924, and we will provide you with a will packet that you can fill out at your convenience and then return it to the office.  Once it is completed you will be contacted and you can come in and pick it up.  I really urge you to take advantage of this benefit.  Your beneficiaries are eligible for a $10,000 policy through the CLEAT Peace Officer’s Memorial Foundation, and if you are in the CLEAT Dental and Optical Plan, your beneficiaries are eligible for a $15,000 policy.  For any of you that travel and stay at any La Quinta Inn nationwide, you are eligible for a discount using the promo code which is CLEAT.  You can pass this benefit on to any of your friends and family members as well.  I would also urge you to visit the CLEAT website at www.cleat.org for other stories and events throughout Texas.
