Ride Information
TransMountainChallenge
7.5 Mile (approx.) bicycle ride up Trans Mountain
After ten years, the Trans Mountain Challenge is back. This is a self challenge ride up the mountain that will start at the water tank located at Redd Rd. and Helen of Troy and end at the summit parking/picnic area. You set your goal, whether it is just to make it to the top or to make it within a set time….this is your ride. You choose your bike (mountain bike or road bike)
All participants are encouraged to arrive early enough to register and warm up (3:00 pm). The event will start promptly (bikes out) at 4:00 pm.
This is not a race, however, grudge matches between Regions, Shifts and Units are highly encouraged.
The ride is tough and challenging but it’s not as bad as you would think….it’s do-able. However, keep in mind that this is a strenuous activity that requires that you have a moderate level of physical fitness. Put some miles on your bike between now and 3-24-12 and be ready.
There will be a recovery truck to pick up those riders whose challenge is to make it half way up the mountain or those who find they are unable to make it to the top this time (the event will be held again, keep riding).
History:
This event started as a challenge between the WSRC and the NERC approximately 13 years ago. This ride was held for two more consecutive years as a department wide event. Officers from all over the department participated on everything from Huffys to multi $K road bikes, and 95% or more of the participants made it to the top. The event fell by the wayside for a number of years. Hopefully this will be the re-start of something that will go on for years.

FYI for all bikers, you can choose to return to the starting point via the mountain trails (mountain bikes only), via the same roadway up to the summit, or on a recovery vehicle/truck.
