COPS on TOP 2012
Several officers of the Department had the honor of taking part in the annual COPS on Top Summit for Heroes climb on Saturday where LE Officers and civilians climb to the highest point in their states in memorial of those law enforcement officers that paid the ultimate sacrifice by giving their lives. For Texas, the location is the Guadalupe National Park with its peak at 8,749 feet. There were probably about 130+ officers representing in Texas with about 50 Dallas Police Officers and about 30 Houston Police Officers travelling out here to hike the mountain. Whether there are people standing on a mound in Florida at 345’ or people in Alaska climbing Mt. McKinley at 20,320’ the event is in memory of them.
Representing El Paso were 13 EPPD officers, 9 UTEP PD officers/guards, and 1 DPS Trooper.
Outstanding jobs by 11 year olds Matthew Esparza and Audrey Peralta and 9 year old Loren Martinez for completing the difficult hike. Also, a special thanks to NERC officer, Jeffrey Drummond, for sponsoring (and trusting) SWAT guys with his RV.
I have attached a few photos for anyone that would like to open them up (quick time picture viewer will open them). Since Guadalupe Peak is practically in our own backyard at 90 miles, hopefully the event will see a large showing of El Paso Police and El Paso area LE agencies in the future. Although enjoyable and personally challenging, the bottom line was taking a little time out of busy personal lives to work and sweat a little in remembrance and honor for every single fallen officer. If I didn’t see you out there and missed listing your name below I certainly apologize.
