EPMPOA Issues

As of July 17, 2012

 

Membership:

 - Ten (10) members had resigned

 - twelve (12) members had retired

 - two (2) members have been terminated.

- The total number of member departures so far for calendar year 2012 is twenty-four (24).

**Current overall membership stands at approximately 1045 members.**
 

Wage Scales Grievance:

To prevent City from seeing information regarding grievances, please contact Chairman Chris Hendricks or President Ron Martin.   The matter is scheduled to go before an arbitrator in September 2012. Regional Directors will know what the date of Arbitration is.

Tuition Assistance Program

President Ron Martin reported that a class-action grievance was filed regarding this benefit which was taken away for sworn members by the city.

Safety

– Chairman Patrick Natividad reported that he is going to follow up on a prior complaint
regarding the lack of fire extinguishers in patrol cars.

Discipline

– Disciplinary Committee Chair Randy Rodriguez reported the following: three (3) new cases
received; two (2) cases were closed out or otherwise disposed; one (1) case is pending decision from a
Civil Service Hearing Examiner; zero (0) cases currently pending a hearing before a Hearing Examiner or
an Arbitrator; five (5) cases are pending the setting of dates for arbitration or before a Civil Service
Hearing Examiner; and approximately thirty (30) cases are pending investigation in various forms,
including officer involved shooting cases and other critical incidents. It was also reported that the
Shooting Review Board recently determined that Sgt. A. Torres’ officer involved shooting case was found
to be within policy. Officer Involved Shooting protocol was also briefly discussed. Report is on file.

Class II Directors Election date for Region VI (HQ)

– Secretary Randy Rodriguez reported that four of the five nominated candidates accepted their nomination. Since there are only three Headquarters Director positions available, an election is needed. After discussion, August 17, 2012 was selected at Election Day. Early voting is scheduled to start on Monday, August
13, 2012. At all of the other Regions, the current incumbents were nominated and will stay
on. There is no need to hold an election at the other Regions. Mark Campos and Patrick
Natividad will assist Randy Rodriguez with the HQ election.

HQ Update on elections:

- Incumbents at HQ will stay on as HQ Directors. One party advised they wished to pull out of race. No need to hold an election at HQ.

Bylaws:

Corporate attorney Gary Reaves was in the process of reviewing the new additions and is near completion.
