Officer Angel Garcia - Line of Duty Death
Jan 02, 2013

The El Paso Municipal Police Officers’ Association once again mourns the tragic death of one of its officers.  Word began to quickly spread early on Sunday morning after it was learned that an El Paso Police Officer had been involved in a traffic accident on Interstate 10 East across from Cielo Vista Mall.

Officer Angel Garcia #2866 responded to a traffic hazard call after a report of a ladder lying across two lanes of traffic on the freeway.  Officer Garcia located the ladder, activated the overhead lights of his patrol car and stopped and exited to remove the hazard, when a terrible chain of events began.  It was reported that four vehicles were involved in the traffic crash, including a semi-truck, an suv, another sedan and Officer Garcia’s police car.

Officer Garcia was transported to a Del Sol Medical Center where he subsequently succumbed to his injuries.  Two other persons involved in the incident were transported to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.  Officer Garcia, who had been a police officer for just nine months, was assigned to the dayshift at the Mission Valley Regional Command Center.  He was just 27 years of age and had served his country as a Marine prior to joining the El Paso Police Department.  Funeral arrangements for Officer Garcia are pending.

The El Paso Municipal Police Officers’ Association asks that you please keep the Garcia Family, his loved ones, and his extended police family in your prayers.
