The board of directors of the El Paso Municipal Police Officers’ Association recently approved donating the use of the EPMPOA Memorial Hall for a very worthy cause – the Burges High School Spring Fling. The donation request, received through member Sgt. Dwain Johnson, was made so that there would be a venue at which to have a dance for special needs and mentally challenged high school students from several El Paso area school districts. This event, started a few years ago by Burges High School Special Education teacher C. Diane Rincon, was held on Wednesday, May 22, 2013 at the EPMPOA Memorial Hall, and was attended by an estimated 250+ students from the El Paso, Ysleta and San Elizario School Districts. This dance, held during school hours in a safe environment, has now become a yearly event and is made possible due to donations and the hard work of a lot of volunteers. Thank you to everyone who had a hand in making this year’s event possible! The EPMPOA is proud to be an active participant with the El Paso community.
