Motor Officer Critically Injured
May 28, 2019

An El Paso Police Department officer was critically injured on Thursday morning, May 23, 2019, after he was hit and run over by a driver who cut through a funeral procession the officer was escorting.  The 13–year veteran officer, assigned to the Westside Regional Command Center, was travelling north on Zaragosa when 41–year old Nicole Anne Pabon, who was in the southbound lanes, made a left turn cutting through the procession and ran over the officer on the motorcycle.

Another officer in the procession and a Good Samaritan citizen pulled the officer from under the vehicle and performed CPR on the officer.  The officer was transported to an area hospital with life-threatening injuries and is in critical but stable condition.

Cutting through a Funeral Procession and Failure to Yield Right of Way on the part of Pabon are factors in the collision.

A GoFundMe page has been set up to assist the officer and his family with various expenses.  This is the only legitimate fundraising campaign authorized.
