'Let’s avoid family gatherings': Mayor Dee Margo open letter to El Paso
Nov 20, 2020

Dear El Paso:

I write this as we approach Thanksgiving, a time of family gatherings and the expected increase of COVID-19 positive cases, increased hospitalizations, and ultimately, more deaths. Why? Because one of the greatest strengths of our region is a family-centered culture. We are a multi-generational community and family is a priority. The Rio Grande Valley recently went through a spike like the one we are experiencing, and our demographics and population makeup are similar. It took them 4 to 5 weeks to plateau, and the primary reason behind their spike was family gatherings.
