First El Paso Police Department law enforcement officer dies from COVID-19

An El Paso police detective died from COVID-19 Monday morning, according to a city representative.

Camerino Santiago, a detective for the police department, is the first police law enforcement officer to die from the virus, said representative Henry Rivera.

Santiago was 67 years old. He was looking to retire at the end of January, stated Rivera.

Santiago worked 23 years for the police department.
