El Paso Police Department struggles to fill its ranks as latest academy only has 23 cadets
Jun 01, 2023
It’s an issue across the country, fewer people want to be police officers.

It’s a problem that seems to be getting worse in El Paso, with the El Paso Police Department struggling to fill their ranks, partially because the public perception of police has changed.

But even with a smaller group of cadets and the need for officers, The El Paso Police Academy isn’t changing how long they train cadets, making it one of the longest in the country at 43 weeks.
