The El Paso Municipal Police Officers’ Association encourages area residents to participate in “Law Enforcement Appreciation Day” (L.E.A.D.) today, Friday, January 09, 2015.  This is a national day of support for law enforcement officers.  For more information on National Law Enforcement Appreciation Day, please click here to watch the public service announcement.

The El Paso Municipal Police Officers’ Association sadly announces the passing of retired Detective Cerjio “Marty” Martinez.  (Ret.) Detective Martinez passed away on Sunday, December 14th at the age of 85. (Ret.) Detective Martinez served the El Paso community from December 1953 until retiring in September of 1992.

The "El Paso Cops Helping Kids" program along with West Corporation will host a "Breakfast with Santa" Christmas party for underprivileged children this Saturday. The event will take place from 9:00 AM to 1:00 PM at the EPMPOA Memorial Hall, 3601 Rutherglen St.

According to statistics collected by the FBI, 76 law enforcement officers were killed in line-of-duty incidents in 2013. Of these, 27 law enforcement officers died as a result of felonious acts, and 49 officers died in accidents. In addition, 49,851 officers were victims of line-of-duty assaults.

The City Council on Tuesday unanimously approved the city's new contract with the El Paso Municipal Police Officers Association that includes a 1.25 percent cost-of-living wage increase and other benefits. The wage increase contained in the collective bargaining agreement for 2014-2018 goes into effect Sunday.

The El Paso Municipal Police Officers' Association extends its deepest condolences to the family, colleagues and friends of the El Paso County Constable who was attacked and killed on Saturday, November 1, 2014 while working security at a Canutillo Halloween event.

YOUR ASSISTANCE IS REQUIRED!  Election Day for the General Election is today, Tuesday, November 4, 2014.  If you did not vote during the early voting period, please make it a point to get out and vote and take your eligible family members to vote as well!  Remember, on Election Day you have to vote at your designated precinct.

Just a Reminder, HR sent out the dates for open enrollment (begins Monday, 10/27) and benefit presentations for Uniformed employees. Enrollment may be changed online using PeopleSoft at your convenience starting Monday, 27th but I urge you to wait until City Council adopts the contract. Open Enrollment will continue through November 23rd.
