The El Paso Municipal Police Officers’ Association in partnership with 42West is participating in an advance screening of the new movie THE LAST STAND. The movie opens in theaters nationwide on Friday, January 18, 2013, however some EPMPOA members get to see the movie before it opens … for free!
EPMPOA members, both active and retired, who are registered on the association’s website (www.epmpoa.org), recently received notice of this promotional opportunity. The EPMPOA secured several seats for members and their guests (limit of four per member) on a first-come, first-served basis. Those who were selected have been notified via e-mail and/or text. If you are a member and have not yet registered, please do so soon!
THE LAST STAND marks the much-anticipated return to the big screen for Arnold Schwarzenegger who plays Sheriff Ray Owens. The movie, rated “R”, also stars Forest Whitaker, Johnny Knoxville, Rodrigo Santoro, Luis Guzmán, Jaimie Alexander, Eduardo Noriega, Peter Stormare, Zach Gilford, and Genesis Rodriguez.
Here’s a little bit about the movie --- Sheriff Ray Owens is a man who has resigned himself to a life of fighting what little crime takes place in the sleepy border town of Sommerton Junction, after leaving his LAPD post following a bungled operation that left him wracked with failure and defeat, after his partner was crippled. After a spectacular escape from an FBI prisoner convoy, Gabriel Cortez, the most notorious, wanted drug kingpin in the hemisphere is hurtling toward the border at 200 mph in a specially outfitted car, a Chevrolet Corvette C6 ZR1, with a hostage and a fierce army of gang members. He is headed, it turns out, straight for Summerton Junction, where the whole of U.S. law enforcement will have their last opportunity to make a stand and intercept him before he slips across the border forever. At first reluctant to become involved, and then counted out because of the perceived ineptitude of his small town force, Owens ultimately accepts responsibility for the face off. NOT IN HIS TOWN…. NOT ON HIS WATCH!

Congratulations to the EPMPOA members and their guests who were selected for a chance to see the movie for free, before it opens in theaters nationwide. We ask that those attending please wear an article of clothing (T-shirt, cap, etc.) that shows your support for law enforcement -- EPMPOA paraphernalia is even better!
The screening of the movie THE LAST STAND will take place on Tuesday, January 15, 2013 at 7:30 PM at Cinemark West, 7440 Remcon Circle. Please try to be there by 7:00 PM. Look for EPMPOA President Ron Martin. Thank you for taking a stand against crime in El Paso.
