Two Officers Injured in Crash

Special Traffic Investigations was called last night to North Loop and Lancaster on a two-vehicle collision involving a marked police vehicle. Investigators learned a full-crew police unit was traveling east at the 9100 block of North Loop Dr., responding to a call for service. 26 –year old Jonathan Herrera was northbound on Lancaster Dr. in a 2005 Dodge Magnum. Herrera disregarded a stop sign and entered the intersection into the path of oncoming traffic. The police vehicle struck the Dodge Magnum, skidded across all lanes of traffic and crashed into a rock wall. All occupants of the vehicles were transported to Del Sol Medical Center for treatment of injuries. Herrera and his passenger, 26 –year old Mark Martinez, suffered serious injuries and were admitted into the hospital. The officer driving the patrol car sustained minor injuries, was treated and released. The passenger officer sustained a fractured femur and was admitted into the hospital. Charges against Herrera are pending and the investigation continues at this time.
