El Paso Police Department welcomes idea of lapel cameras; funding equipment in question
Posted On: Jun 176, 2020
The need for police body cameras has been more prevalent now than ever before, following recent deaths in police custody.
The El Paso Police Department currently has 34 body cameras; 17 of those are issued to the Driving While Intoxicated unit and the other 17 are issued to the Crisis Intervention Team.
"Body cameras don’t make us feel uncomfortable, we have always been transparent as a police department. We have always been in the public eye so this is just another tool for us to utilize, but I think we are very comfortable with the idea," Police Department Assistant Chief Zina Silva said.
