TxDOT, EPE, EPPD partner to launch pedestrian safety campaign
Posted On: Nov 311, 2020
The Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT) El Paso District is partnering with El Paso Police Department (EPPD), El Paso Electric (EPE) and El Pasoans Fighting Hunger Food Bank for the annual pedestrian safety campaign, just as daylight savings time ends.
The campaign consists of bilingual educational messages posted via social media, the release of bilingual public service announcements and the distribution of thousands of reflective “Be Safe, Be Seen” slap bands.
“While the pandemic has decreased traffic and there are fewer pedestrian deaths this year compared to last year, one death on our roadways is one too many,” said TxDOT El Paso District Engineer Tomas Treviño. “Citywide we have had 12 pedestrian deaths so far this year; half of those deaths have occurred on state roadways including I-10 and Loop 375. Those aren’t places for walking or crossing.”
